CEO of the Local Organising Committee Chris Simpson says the initiative has been tailored specifically for clubs so that everyone involved in the sport can witness this spectacular event.

"Our main focus is on the football community including the thousands of mums, dads, coaches, referees and players who get out every weekend to take part in 'the beautiful game'," he says.

The ticketing promotion offers a series of unbeatable 'early bird' ticket rates as well as some fantastic prizes.

For just $20 for kids (under-17) and $30 for adults, football fans will be able to attend four match days including all pool games at each venue plus quarter-finals in Hamilton and Wellington, semi-finals in Christchurch and the opening ceremony in Auckland. Tickets for the Final at North Harbour Stadium can be additionally purchased.

With New Zealand having the honour of hosting this inaugural FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup, Simpson says it is essential the football community gets behind it.

"An event like this doesn't come around very often and we want football fans to have every opportunity to experience the passion associated with all FIFA tournaments," he says.

"Already 150 territories have bought the broadcasting rights so we will be on show to an estimated 125 million viewers worldwide."

Youth Football has a Future

photo for Youth Football has a Future.

17 June 2008
Coastal Spirit FC was formed in 2008 by bringing together traditional powerhouses of Canterbury football: Rangers AFC and New Brighton AFC. Along with coming under the Linfield Sports umbrella, having a full time Football Development manager, this allows the club to be a leading light for football in our region.

photo for Youth Football has a Future. Mainland sees positives here, such as an increase to retention, attraction and development of players, coaches and referees. Tim Bush believes that the only way for our aspiring youth footballers to improve and stay within the game needs the clubs to support them by providing clear and concise opportunities. Combining our resources, opportunities, facilities and knowledge of the game will increase these vital aspects of youth football. Clubs need to start working with schools of all levels (primary, intermediate and, especially, secondary) and schools need to start working with clubs.

As an old boy of St Bede's College, Turnbull is very excited about the venture. "I'm so passionate about football and development players and coaches. For me to be able to assist my old school to improve the quality of football as well as making the transition from school football to senior football easier is a great opportunity".

This formal agreement is the third such bond between club and school in the South Island, after Halswell and St Andrew's shook hands late last year and Nomads United and Christchurch Boys' High School shook hands early this year. However, what makes this one different is Coastal Spirit look at the players holistically. Coaching, refereeing and player development opportunities are given to those who seek them. To assist this process Coastal have devised an excellent concept that the senior men's and women's 1st XI players are paired up with youth and junior based teams. This is a serious club for serious footballers.

MPL playoff appeal result

11 March 2008
Coastal Spirit FC's debut in the Mainland Premier League has been delayed by a season due to Burnside FC having greater success in court (regarding player eligibility) than they had on the playing field. Despite Mainland Football advising that all players were cleared to play in the 2007 playoffs, NZ Football overturned their earlier advice with their Appeal Committee decision. This decision has been upheld by the Court for Arbitration in Sport. Coastal Spirit FC men's first team will play in the 2008 Division 1 (the old Qualifying League) with the aim of promotion to the Mainland Premier League for the 2009 season. One question which remains unresolved is: will Burnside continue their claims for there to be automatic relegation/promotion between these divisions?
