Coastal Spirit FC Juniors: Other 2008
Under 14 Gold: Rangiora 1 Coastal Spirit 4
10 May 2008
Early start, we met at Bexley just after 8am, leaving shortly afterwards. Arriving in plenty of time for a good warm up, first game after school holidays and being rained off last week, perfect conditions for football, fine sunny morning, pitch in good condition. Rangiora coach, not keen to referee half a game, so a big thanks goes out to Clint, who refereed the whole game for us.
Coastal dominated the first half, with Rachel, Danni, Natalie, Zee and Grace all going close to scoring - but the goals just wouldn't come. It could have been one of those games where they had one attack, scored and won one-nil. But, nil-nil at half time, we had everything to play for. Once again the second half had started as the first half had been, with Coastal dominating the game, defending well when required. Finally the pressure paid off and Danni scored a goal for us. Unfortunately this lead was short-lived, because while we were still in celebration mood, Rangiora kicked off and with one attacking move, scored the equaliser. This was probably the wake up call the girls needed, because they lifted their game and scored another three goals: one to Danni and two to Rachel. This time when Rangiora kicked off, we made sure that their playmaker was closed down and any chance of a quick attack was cancelled out.
I personally think that the oranges, provided by Wendy Jones at half time, must have contained magic ingredients, as the second half was greatly improved on the first half performance. But we will settle for a 4-1 win. Player of the day: Emma Norris. The team greatly appreciated the large band of travelling supporters that were right behind them, from the first whistle, so keep up the support and we will see you next week at Cuthberts.
